Vision for the Future
The Dunbar Carver Museum continues to grow as more alumni, families, and community members share photographs, documents, artifacts, and memorabilia connected to the history of Brownsville and Haywood County. While these contributions enrich the museum’s collection, many important items must currently be kept in storage due to limited exhibit space.
The conceptual drawing shown here illustrates a possible expansion of the museum that would triple the current exhibit capacity. This expansion would allow the museum to properly display many of the historic materials now preserved in storage, giving visitors a deeper and more complete understanding of the community’s history.
Additional space would also make it possible to create new exhibit galleries, educational areas, and archival storage designed to better preserve historic photographs, school memorabilia, and community records connected to Dunbar School, Haywood County Training School, and Carver High School.
This vision represents an important step toward ensuring that the stories of the students, teachers, and families who shaped this historic campus are preserved and shared with future generations. Through thoughtful growth and community support, the Dunbar Carver Museum can continue to serve as a center for learning, remembrance, and pride in the legacy of Haywood County’s African American community.
